  1. Introduction
  2. In addition to Volume 1, the purpose of this second booklet is to give the "Na’at Lovers" and budding Na’at Khwaans a chance to read up and in fact practice even more popular Na’ats in Roman Urdu. For example, the present generation of youth may be fully conversant in Urdu, but might lack the fluency when it comes to reading and writing. Innumerable requests were made by this young generation, who are also keen to express their love for the Prophet, who was, is, and will be Rehmatul Lil Aalameen, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (SAW). It is intended therefore that this humble book will suffice their needs. At their behest Volume 2 has been rushed to the publishers whilst work on Volume 3 has already begun. Incidentally, one of the correct dictionary definition of a Na’at is an "Eulogy", "Panegyric", "Encomium"; which is a high praise given in a speech or a written format.

    As a rule, the name of the author will appear on the penultimate line (one before the last line). Na’ats have been written here, exactly as how you would pronounce them, e.g., it will instruct you to repeat the chorus lines wherever appropriate.

    As with the first Volume, along with the Na’ats of Aala Hazrat, Imam of Aih’l-e Sunnat, Mujaddidey Millat, Maulana, Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, we have also included other distinguished Na’at writers such as Janaab Bekal, Anjum and Niyazi to mention but a few. Furthermore, many long Na’ats such as "MUSTAFA JAANE REHMAT", contains difficult words in Farsi. So wherever possible we have included a very brief "Meanings" column at the end of the Na’at.


    The sequence observed in this book is as follows:

Usmane Ghani" (RA), Hazrat Maula Ali (Karamallaahu Wajhu) lovingly known as "Mushkil Kusha" (RA), Hazrat Ghaus-Ul A’zam Dastagir, Ghaus As Saqalain, H. Ghaus Paak, Shaikh Muhyiddin Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA); and finally, Khawaja Gharib Nawaaz, Hazrat Moinuddin Hasan, Sanjari, Ajmeri, Chishti (RA).

    2. i). All the important grammatical rules have been observed and the letters of the Urdu alphabet are represented by the appropriate Roman English letters. It is a pre-requisite and a mandatory requirement that the reader "MUST" be able to converse fluently in Urdu.


      ii) The word "HU(N)" is a Present Definite Singular Tense, the plural of which is "HAI(N)", e.g.,


      MAY(N) MADINAH JA RAHA HU(N) becomes HAM MADINAH JA RAHEY HAI(N)

      iii) The "Aorist" tense is usually employed by most Na’at Authors, when the Present Indefinite Tense occurs in English after "If", "When" and "Until" and the Verb of the second clause is in the Imperative; as will be seen from the following example:


      Singular: MAY(N) MADINEY KO JAAU(N) Plural: HAM MADINEY KO JAAEI(N)

    3. Pronunciation and Transliteration
    4. The compiler has done his best to indicate the current pronunciation of the Urdu words with the help of an EXTREMELY SIMPLE system of transliteration, i.e., the pronunciation of Urdu words in this book is based on principles which are by and large accepted by modern Orientalists. It has the added advantage of being akin to the Roman Urdu script used for army education in this sub-continent over the past few generations.

      1. Vowels - Notes on the Use of "AA"
      2. In the Urdu, language, usually the long "AA" sound is obtained and pronounced by placing a MADD sign on top of Alif, e.g., "JAANIB". In other words, the "AA" sound is pronounced in the same way as the English word "Part", where as the singular letter "A" within a word in a Na’at is pronounced as if it was "A" in the word "Mental" or "Bank".

        However, during the preparation of this book it was discovered that there are thousands of written words in Urdu, which does not have a MADD sign, but from an every day conversational colloquial perspective, are still pronounced with an "AA" sound. Therefore, in this book we have adopted an extensive use of "AA". The net effect is that in a Na’at, this scheme will help us distinguish between the words "TALAB" and "JANAAB".

        Unfortunately, there are exception to this rule, as over the years the spelling of most names have already been embedded in people’s mind; e.g., names such as ALLAH, H. Bibi Aminah (RA), H. Bibi Fatima (RA), Madinah, etc. So all the names have been printed as such. In addition, authors’ names throughout this book such as, Niyazi, Khalid, have also been retained with a single "A". Ideally all these names should be spelled with "AA".

        Another exception to this rule is that if the letter "A" within a word in a Na’at occurs at the end, e.g., KHUDA, or AAP KA, then clearly it is understood that it should be read as "AA" by default.

      3. Words Ending in "Noon Ghunna"
      4. When the Urdu letter "Noon" comes after a long vowel, and when used at the end of a word, it is pronounced with a nasal sound, e.g., NAHI(N). So as this letter is somewhat silent, rather than omit completely from the transliteration text, it has been written in a bracket as follows and thus pronounced as such: KAHAA(N), JAHAA(N), WAHAA(N)

      5. Words Requiring Accent
      6. In the present Volume, the author has taken great pains to indicate the accent and thereby endeavored to guide the reader in exact pronunciation. For instance, we find highly accurate transliteration of some extremely difficult phonetic complexities, rendered intelligible to an ordinary reader – especially the foreign reader, as follows: The single apostrophe, i.e., (‘) has been placed immediately after every stressed syllable to denote accent, thus you have the following words, e.g., Allah Ta’ala, Wa’ahduhu, Na’at, Qur’an, Ka’abah, Ma’arifat and so on so forth.

        Finally, for the ease of readability and moreover to attain the correct accent, some words have been joined, TUNE, instead of TU NE, etc.

      7. The Usage of English Words Intermingled with Roman Urdu Words

    Throughout the book it was felt necessary that copious meanings and explanations be offered in plain English. Thus inorder to distinguish between Roman Urdu and English words, it was felt necessary that all the English language words be written in lower cases, e.g.,

    These instances would amply indicate the intricacies of the problems facing the author of a Book of NA’AT.

    This Na’at has been reproduced from the original Arabic manuscripts, exactly as written by H. Zainul Abedeen (RA).

    It is also the first of its kind and unique in that the first two lines are
    written in Arabic. This is followed by two lines of Na’at translated in Urdu / Farsi. The translation has been typed in ITALICS. So the net effect of the whole process is that the Na’at Khwaan can captivate the people’s attention (which is short span anyway) and at the same time enlighten the listeners in both or either languages. In addition, apart from the verse form observed in Na’at, the straight Urdu translation of each line has also been included, in the full line by line translation of the original Arabic text, after the "Meanings" section, at the end.

    existence is temporal or conditional; that he is dependent on no person or thing,
    but all persons or things are dependent on him thus negativing
    the idea of shirk and other gods.

    * H. Ali (Karamallaahu Wajhu) Mushkil Kusha (RA), participated in most of
    the battles fought in the life time of the Master. He joined all battles and expeditions,
    including Badr, Uhud and Junge Khandaq. In the latter battle in the fifth year of Hijrah,
    all enemies of Islam joined hands. They led a huge army against Madinah
    Sharif. The Holy Prophet (SAW) defended the city by digging a deep and wide trench
    around it. But one day Abdwood, a warrior of all Arabian fame, jumped across the
    trench on horseback. No one dared to go near him. At last, H. Ali came out to fulfill his challenge:

    "Remember, Ali," said the Holy Prophet (SAW), "it is Abdwood."

    "Yes, Master I know it," Replied H. Ali (RA).

    In a few minutes Ali threw down his huge rival and cut off his head.

    The Jews had a chain of strong forts at Khaibar. These were a source of an ever-present threat to the Muslims. The Holy Prophet (SAW) led an army to deal with this threat. The Jews put up a stiff fight. But their several forts fell one after another. However, ‘Qumus’ proved to be the strongest Jewish fort. Its commander, Marhab, beat back all attacks. At last the Holy Prophet (SAW) said, "Tomorrow I am going to give the standard to a man who is loved by Allah and his Prophet and who loves Allah and his Prophet. Allah will grant him victory."

    Everyone was eager to know who the fortunate man was. The next morning H. Ali (RA) was granted the standard. H. Ali (RA) penetrated the gigantic door (and hence the words "Azdar Figan" in this Na’at), slew Marhab and his brother and took the fort.

These Manqabats are especially dedicated to Hazrat Ghaus-ul A’zam Dastagir, Ghaus As Saqalain, Hazrat Ghaus Paak, Shaikh Muhyiddin Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA), Qutbe Rabbani, Mehboobe Subhani, Pirane Pir, Waliyo(n) Ke Wali, Jis Ka Pair Har Waliyo(n) Ke Gardan Pe Hai.
